The Rag Throughout the Ages

The Rag Throughout the Ages
with Collections Manager, Alice Church

Since its inception in 1837, the Army & Navy Club has seen many changes, including seven monarchs and three club buildings. While the Army & Navy Club we know today is very different from what it was 100 years ago, there remain many artefacts which hark back to the Club’s foundations.

Our The Rag Throughout the Ages online presentation will give you a fresh perspective on the Club’s history and what sets it apart from other establishments in London’s Clubland. Discover the origins of our nickname, how we developed such an eclectic art collection and what we are doing to ensure that it is preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Click the  Watch the Talk link below for a virtual tour of the Club throughout the centuries, stopping off at major milestones along the way, illustrated with favourite art works and lesser-known historical gems. You are sure to learn something new to impress visitors with on your next visit.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much I enjoyed the rather marvelous and informative presentation that Alice delivered. It was hugely enjoyable and I learned so much.” – Major Bell
