The Falklands Conflict: A Presentation

THE FALKLANDS CONFLICT; 1982
A Royal Engineer Perspective

Tuesday 15th November from 18.30 – 20.00
The Library | £15.00 per person*

Colonel Chris Davies commanded 9 Parachute Squadron RE during the Falklands Campaign in 1982. Join him, and Colonel Ian Paterson, the evening’s host, to hear a presentation to members on the role of the Royal Engineers during the campaign and the two years that followed. This will be a fascinating insight into the wide spectrum of responsibilities that are the lot of the Corps of Royal Engineers, both in “War Fighting” and in the restoration of “Normality” thereafter. An eye-opener which is not to be missed!

Chris Davies was a Royal Engineer officer for almost 20 years.  As a Major he commanded The Parachute Squadron of the Royal Engineers from 1982 to 1984, which included the Falklands’ Campaign.  For ‘Outstanding Leadership’ in this conflict he was appointed MBE.  As a measure of his Squadron’s involvement, awards earned by his soldiers included two Military Medals, three Mentions in Despatches, and a Fleet Chief’s Commendation.  After the collapse of the Berlin Wall in Europe, which he deduced as the outbreak of peace, Chris retired from the Army in 1990, aged 42, to seek other challenges. He is now officially retired and lives, with his wife, Jenny, in the New Forest, where Military History, the Arts, writing, walking and a host of other activities fill every day to capacity – mostly with pleasure.

Colonel Ian Paterson OBE TD, is a former chairman of the Army & Navy Club.
