Watch Supper with Roger W. Smith
Monday 6th October at 19.00 | Drawing Room | £80.00 per person
The watches of Roger W. Smith can change hands for up to $5 million. Prospective owners cherish that each piece is unique and handmade using methods passed down by his mentor, the celebrated horologist, George Daniels, and enhanced further by the additional techniques Roger has established and finessed over time. Much of this has happened at his Isle of Man studio, formerly where Daniels was based and bequeathed to his protege on passing in 2011.
Following on from the Rag’s first ever watch supper with Bremont founder, Giles English, as guest of honour, join Roger who will be at the supper table with members to share the story of his path to the present day and position as one of the world’s most celebrated watch makers. Hear, first hand, how he had to persuade Daniels to accept him as an apprentice by proving as a rookie 20-something that a handmade watch was within his gifts. Also learn how Roger has taken watch making to an even higher level than his mentor and at the same time nurtured a number of youthful disciples who either stay as part of the Isle of Man team or head off on their own to make memorable pieces, too.
See The Watchmaker’s Apprentice Here.
A watch supper with a hugely decorated maker – or creator, as George Daniels preferred to say – who was awarded an OBE in 2018 for services to watchmaking. An evening of insight into how to make a watch from the very start to the finish. A potentially fascinating supper from beginning to end of a life that warranted being immortalised in film. Moreover, a night when you might end up holding a Roger W. Smith time piece worth millions, which has to be worth a commitment to attend and secure a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
