Make the most of London’s quiet streets on our Secrets of St James’s Walking Tour. Home to some of the capital’s grandest houses and palaces – and The Rag of course – there is more to this historic enclave than meets the eye. Led by Member and Blue Badge Guide Jean Paul Guillaume, Members are invited to discover the labyrinth of alleyways that snake their way between the exclusive cigar, hat and fine wine shops that have been supplying Royalty for generations and gaze back in time through their windows with tales of the past.
Starting in the heart of Clubland, we will walk past some of the best known Clubs in London. A look at de Gaulle and the Headquarters he occupied during WWII before stopping by George VI and the Queen Mother (and their illustrated presence in London during WWII as well). The important buildings along the Mall and St James’s Park, before heading towards the more commercial parts of St James’s. The oldest hat shop in the world, one of the finest wine merchants ever, the tiny yard where the last duel in London took place, and some of the most celebrated shops, from cigars to shoes or cheese, and a few more hidden corners of that wonderful part of the capital.
Meet your guide – Jean Paul Guillaume
Born in Belgium and established in London since 1985, Jean Paul spent the first part of his career in the hospitality industry, mainly Front Office Management in a 4-star West End property.
In 2007, he started the two-year course to become a Blue Badge Guide, the highest accolade in the guiding industry, which he gained in 2009. Since then, Jean Paul has been self-employed, guiding thousands of clients around London.
After a day of exploring, Members are warmly invited to unwind with a delicious two-course lunch or an afternoon tea at The Ribbon Bar and Coffee Room.
