Lunch with Dame Wendy Hall

Lunch with Dame Wendy Hall
Wednesday 14th May | 12.00 for 12.30 | Clive Room | £65.00

When the Government needed an independent review into “AI” in 2017, Professor Dame Wendy Hall, with decades of experience and excellence in this field, was the standout prospective Chair. Join her for lunch in the Clive Room for salon-style proceedings during which she will consider where we are today with AI, the degree to which the past has shaped the future, and how developments over the least eight years since she look into this for the Government have or should have shaped attitudes and approaches.

A professor at Southampton, Dame Wendy now advises the United Nations on AI, among other global roles. She has shared a preference for the UK not necessarily following the European Union in every respect of proposed mainland regulation of AI. She has also warned of the dangers of a “Tech-bro takeover” that might dilute what benefits there could be from the integration of AI in areas like health and education. All for consideration at the table, with the Rag having achieved the seemingly impossible of finding room in Dame Wendy’s diary.

The subject of AI needs a full grasp of both related issues and technology. In Dame Wendy, we have the preeminent mind of this field. Join her for lunch, in person rather than a virtual reality…
