Literary Lunch with Esther Freud
Thursday 9th October | 12.00 for 12.30 | Drawing Room | £65.00
Since her debut novel, “Hideous Kinky”, Esther Freud has been a much-loved writer and active in both theatre and television including as an actor. Her latest (and tenth) novel, “My Sister, and Other Lovers”, published by Bloomsbury in June, resumes the semi-autobiographical story of Hideous Kinky’s Lucy, that became a film staring Kate Winslet, and brings characters from over 30 years ago into the current Millennium.
Join Esther, the daughter of the artist, Lucien Freud (and great grand daughter of Sigmund) for a literary lunch when at the table in conversation she will share the genesis of both her first and most recent book (as well as the eight in between), and how her approach to writing has evolved over four decades. Also enjoy her thoughts on how she has spread her creativity to include theatre and television, as a writer and actor (including, no less, a part in Dr. Who), and balanced the pressures of domestic life with her artistic pursuits.
This lunch is with a writer whose gifts have stood the test of time, and who was able to draw on a very creative family and gene pool to the benefit of many who became her devoted readers. Any avid book worms or aspirational writers have much cause to be at this table, so reserve a place early to avoid disappointment.
