We are delighted to announce the 1991 Gulf War 35th Anniversary Dinner, a special occasion to honour the courage, actions and accomplishments of those who served. We are privileged to welcome General Sir Rupert Smith, GOC 1st Armoured Division 1991, as our Guest of Honour for the evening.

Members of The Rag are invited to join us for a welcome drinks reception in The Drawing Room, followed by a three-course dinner and an opportunity to mark the 35th Anniversary as we ought to, reflecting on the service and achievements of the 1st Armoured Division during this critical period.

General Sir Rupert Smith retired from the British Army in January 2002 having enlisted in 1962. He served in East and South Africa, Arabia, the Caribbean, Europe, and Malaysia. His last appointment was Deputy Supreme Commander Allied Powers Europe.

Prior to that he was the General Officer Commanding in Northern Ireland; Commander UNPROFOR in Sarajevo; and General Officer Commanding 1 (UK) Armoured Division, in the 1990 – 1991 Gulf War.

Since leaving the service he has taught at various Staff Colleges and Universities, and he has been consulted by Governments, NGO’s and commercial organisations. His book “The Utility of Force” was published in September 2005.
