Fireside Chat with William Nicolson

Gladiator, Shadowlands, Les Miserables… just three of the films for which William Nicholson co-wrote the script, with the first two earning him Oscar nominations. Add these to regular BAFTA recognition over a number of years, and a Royal Television Society’s Writer’s Award on his mantlepiece, among wider acclaim, and we have a generational talent on screens, big and small.
For the first Fireside Chat of the new year, join William in the Drawing Room – and perhaps supper afterwards in the Coffee Room, too, for further, perhaps more wide-ranging discussions at the table – as he reflects on a lifetime of writing, first at the BBC, for which he wrote the script for the television adaptation of Shadowlands, then in the world of film. His ultimate splash in Hollywood is grounds for rueful reflection. At the BBC starting out he worked on an Everyman documentary considering Satanism there. He still became a wordsmith to the stars on films that earned the industry’s highest accolades. In parallel, William has also been an acclaimed novelists and author. If you have some aspirations towards writing your own book or a screenplay that will earn a Best Film Oscar, this Fireside Chat could be the catalyst.
As suggested, fireside conversation will continue over supper in the Coffee Room with William for a select few members keen to go deeper into his world. Whether you are keen just to sit comfortably in the Drawing Room, or would also like to pull up a chair for supper, this evening stands to be a blockbuster.
