Tuesday 22nd July at 18.30 | Ribbon Bar & Terrace | £30.00

Singing off with a slam dunk….

After the hugely successful (surely now) annual cigar supper at the start of June, ahead of breaking for summer a valedictory cigar evening on the Ribbon Terrace along the lines of past gatherings in previous months. For the occasion a new Montecristo, “Slam”, near enough robusto, at 5 5/8” x 52 ring gauge. This fresh addition to the house’s “Open” series, launched in 2009, is a new idilicos vitola, which equates almost to a robusto. As for what you might expect, the heavier more traditional Montecristo smoke is replaced in the “Slam” with a milder offering. So gathering earlier in the evening will ensure the cigar fits well with the ambience of the hour.

The Slam is “totalmente a mano con tripa larga” – totally by hand using long filler – and rolled with selected leaves grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone. This region of Pinar del Rio in Cuba is known for producing the best tobacco in the world.

Montecristo is one of Cuba’s most popular, if not the most popular, cigar houses. Named after the famous Dumas story of revenge, the band, founded in 1935, is one of the island’s most attractive operations. In years gone by those working in the cigar factories would be joined by a story teller who would read from a famous tex such as the Count of Montecristo.
