Major Paul Skelton-Stroud was a cherished member of The Rag for nearly 34 years, known for his warmth, generosity, and dedication to the Club. His passion for its history and traditions saw him carefully cataloguing and preserving its art, artefacts, and library, sharing his knowledge through engaging tours filled with fascinating details and anecdotes.
Beyond his work within the Club, Paul enriched members’ experiences by organising exclusive visits to the Royal Mews and the Royal Horse Artillery, drawing on his many connections – often strengthened over a glass of “Scottish Wine”. A man of strong principles, he upheld the Club’s standards with good humour and conviction, always keen to welcome new faces and encourage companionship at the table.
Paul’s presence was felt at every significant Club occasion, from Bonny Lunches to Christmas gatherings, where his carefully crafted Graces reflected his wit, tradition, and loyalty to the monarch. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a respected figure in the veterinary world.
