Army and Navy Club Yacht Squadron Spring Cruise

Members of the Rag’s Yacht Squadron enjoyed their first cruise of 2025 when they departed Portsmouth on Monday 5th May to head west to Portland. Sailing aboard the Army Sailing Association’s yacht Grebe VIII (which is a Hallberg Rassy 34.5 and under our group membership of the ASA any squadron member can charter) the first night was spent on a swinging mooring within sight of Old Harry Rocks in Studland Bay.

The next day saw an early start and a fine run into Portland Harbour, to arrive in good time to toast VE Day aboard before going ashore for dinner. Having benefited from an easterly wind on the westward run, the return saw the wind on the bow and sailing close hauled throughout. Even so Yarmouth was made in easy time for a comfortable night on the swinging moorings ther before another exciting run – needing only three tacks in The Solent – to arrive at the transit for Portsmouth Harbour.

The squadron has two further cruises this year and while the June one is now fully booked, the early autumn trip (5th-7th September) still has berths available.
