Diana the huntress
This is a rather an unusual and unique object for the Club to have. It is a beautiful full length statue of Diana the huntress, sculpted in Rome in 1874 by the artist Holme Cardwell (c.1815-1887). Diana has shed her clothes and leans against a tree, her bow and arrows at her side.
It was presented to the club by Vice-Admiral E.W. Van Stittart to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Next to it is an equestrian portrait of the 1st Duke of Wellington by Henry William Pickersgill, which was bought for the club by its members in 1852, the year of the Duke’s death.
