TLC Talk: Andrew Graham-Dixon – Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found

Monday 11th May at 11:00 | £15

There are about three dozen known paintings in existence by Johannes Vermeer and yet his work is thought of as well-known throughout the world and the best are deemed ‘without price’. Andrew Graham-Dixon is an award-winning broadcaster and author and a highly respected art historian. He wrote a highly acclaimed biography of Caravaggio, part ‘whodunnit’, part art history and wholly gripping throughout. Before that he wrote about Michelangelo the man and the Sistine Chapel, his masterpiece. Now he has used a similarly forensic and knowledgeable approach to understand both the life and work of another of the most enigmatic painters, Vermeer. ‘Richly evoking the heady days of the Dutch Republic, Graham-Dixon’s definitive biography of Vermeer places the great seventeenth-century painter’s works in the context of a hitherto unexplored personal life.’
