CIGARS ON THE TERRACE
Thursday 24th July at 18.30 | Ribbon Bar & Terrace | £30.00
In showbiz, the call is often for one night only. For the Rag and those members who enjoy a cigar, a seasonal bonus of a two evenings in a week. To dovetail with the fully-subscribed gathering on July 22nd, a second sitting now arranged for devotees on Thursday 24th.
The second of these occasions will feature a Bolivar Royal Corona, one of Cuba’s most popular sticks. This near five-inch, robusto-size is a full-bodied smoke, mirroring the charismatic power of the liberator, Simon Bolivar, after whom the house is named. The band goes back to 1902 and today is based at the same factory where Partagas cigars are made. All Bolivar cigars are handmade with this one boasting filler tobacco and wrapper leaf from the Vuelta Abajo region, home to Cuba’s finest produce.
To accompany this, and also for the evening 48 hours earlier, the good folk of Innis & Gunn have mustered some Ossian Inveralmond from the house’s Perthshire brewery, a sister to the Edinburgh mother ship. Like Bolivar, the warrior Ossian, from the the third century, was a formidable force. Prepare for a pour that is pale and golden with hoppy aromas offering strong notes of juicy orange, alongside nutty and biscuity undertones. These will offset the cigar’s rich sense of pistachio, earth and black pepper.
With thanks as always to Hunters & Frankau for sourcing such a quality smoke for members. Indeed double thanks.
