Fireside Chat with Simon Murry
Simon Murray’s Fireside Chat at the Club proved to be a captivating journey through a life lived in three extraordinary acts, each deserving of celebration in its own right. Gathered by the Drawing Room fireplace, members were treated to Simon’s reflections on his remarkable experiences, from his service in the French Foreign Legion during the Algerian War, to his dynamic business career in Asia and beyond, and finally to his awe-inspiring achievement as the oldest man to reach the South Pole unsupported at the age of 64. Simon’s tales ranged from advising Governor Chris Patten during Hong Kong’s handover to China, to his pivotal role in founding the telecommunications giant Orange, later sold for a staggering $36 billion.
