Tasting on the Terrace
The Army and Navy Club recently hosted a delightful evening as part of its popular Tasting on the Terrace series, welcoming Fiona Firman from Sidewood Estate, an acclaimed winery in the cool climate region of Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Guests were treated to a journey through Sidewood’s exceptional range of wines, crafted with elegance and a commitment to quality by owners Owen and Cassandra Inglis since their purchase of the estate in 2004. Despite its relative youth in the wine industry, Sidewood has earned the prestigious Five Red Star Accreditation from renowned wine critic James Halliday and is celebrated as the largest eco-sustainable winery in the Adelaide Hills.
Under the evening sky, members savoured a curated selection of Sidewood’s finest offerings, including the vibrant Isabella Sparkling Rosé 2015, the aromatic Estate Fumé Blanc 2019, and the elegant Estate Chardonnay 2021. The tasting continued with the refined Mappinga Chardonnay 2018, the rich Abel Clone Pinot Noir 2019, and the robust Mappinga Shiraz 2016. Each wine was thoughtfully introduced by Fiona, who shared insights into the craftsmanship and sustainability ethos behind Sidewood’s success.
The evening was a perfect blend of sophistication, discovery, and conviviality, showcasing wines that reflect the distinctive terroir of Adelaide Hills while embodying the innovation and passion of the Sidewood Estate.
